Security Clearance: Active NATO Secret clearance is required. Candidates with current national security clearances equivalent to NATO Secret may also be considered, subject to transferability and NATO approval.
Overview
We are supporting a NATO organisation with the search for a DCIS System Engineer to support engineering, infrastructure, and operational delivery activities within a highly secure, mission-critical environment based in Mons, Belgium.
This role sits within a Defence Communications and Information Systems (DCIS) environment and will focus on the design, development, implementation, and operational support of enterprise infrastructure and NATO-approved exercises. The successful candidate will work as a senior engineer within a technically complex environment, supporting engineering projects, DevOps activity, infrastructure automation, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and technical leadership.
This is a hands-on technical engineering role requiring strong enterprise infrastructure experience across storage, virtualisation, Windows/Linux systems, Active Directory, networking, automation, and high-availability environments.
The position is fully onsite in Mons and will require collaboration across technical teams supporting NATO operations and exercises.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide professional and technical contributions to the design, development, and execution of DCIS engineering projects
• Contribute and participate in a Development-Operations (DevOps) environment using concepts such as continuous integration, continuous change management, deployment automation, and system monitoring
• Support junior staff with incident management, service requests, and problem management processes, acting as a senior engineer and escalation point for technical issues
• Provide DCIS engineering support to technically plan and execute NATO-approved exercises, both onsite and remotely where required
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including service designs, implementation documentation, and troubleshooting guides
• Plan, schedule, participate in, and lead technical support teams in support of projects and operational exercises
• Deliver on-the-job training where required to maintain a highly skilled and technically capable support capability across the service line
• Deputise for higher-grade staff when necessary
• Perform additional engineering and operational duties as required
Technical Requirements
Candidates should have demonstrable hands-on experience across the following areas:
• Centralised storage systems based on FC, iSCSI, SAS, or hyper-converged technologies such as vSAN
• Recent virtualisation technologies based on VMWare ESXi and Virtual Centre / vCenter
• Recent Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Linux operating systems
• Expert-level Directory, Identity and Access Management, including multiple interconnected and federated Active Directory domains and forests
• Expert knowledge of DNS resolution, server hardening, Active Directory troubleshooting, and GPO development
• Microsoft Remote Desktop solutions or related application provisioning technologies
• High Availability Systems, including failover clustering, Database Availability Groups (DAG), stretched clusters, and resilient enterprise environments
• Windows patching and anti-malware update systems
• Scripting experience using Bash or PowerShell
• Experience with automation and orchestration tools
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking principles
• Knowledge of ITIL IT Service Management and applied knowledge of Service Transition
• Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including producing technical manuals and engineering documentation
Experience Required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting and implementing enterprise or deployable infrastructure environments
• Minimum 3 years’ active participation within a DevOps environment, including automation, scripting, and deployment support
• Experience working within complex, secure, or defence/government environments would be highly advantageous
• Previous experience supporting large enterprise infrastructure or mission-critical environments is strongly preferred
Additional Information
• Full-time onsite role based in Mons, Belgium
• Some work outside of standard office hours may be required
• Up to 50 Temporary Duty (TDY) trips within Belgium per year may be required
• The environment is highly secure and operationally sensitive, therefore candidates must be comfortable working within structured governance, technical process, and secure operational frameworks
